Tough week for Cali

Earlier last week, I noticed that one of Cali's back toes was swollen and then the next day it ruptured! I wasn't sure what happened and I didn't want it to get infected so I took her to the vet on Monday. Since I couldn't request any time off from school, I had to drop her off in the morning and pick her up after school. I just felt terrible about it, like a mom dropping her child off at day care for the first time. While she was there, the veterinarian (who by the way is AWESOME!) called me at least 3 times about her discoveries and her recommended treatments. She found Cali's claws coming back in!
Can you believe that? I had never heard about that happening before. The veterinarian said she had only heard rumors about it but never really believed it. She suggested that we take an x-ray to see if all of her claws were coming back in or just the ones she could already see. They all were coming back in!!! I have the x-ray and it is just insane. They performed surgery on Cali Tuesday and she spent the night at the hospital. I really missed Cali.

Normally, when I come home Cali greets me in the window. Once I walk in the door she's all over me...rubbing up against me, purring...if I pick her up she butts her head against me. If I'm studying on the sofa she'll come and lay on my legs and sometimes on my papers, LOL! While typing on my laptop, she'll creep up next to me and kneed me in the stomach and again butt me in the face with her head. Most of the time while I'm working she sits at the top of the staircase watching over the house. Then when it's time for bed, she comes down to get me by poking me with her paw until I get up. As soon as I get in bed, she curls up between my legs or my knee pit (if I'm on my side) and falls asleep. Sometimes if I fall asleep without her, I'll wake up with her somewhere on top of me. When I say somewhere I mean anything from my back, stomach, legs, arms, practically anywhere.

I picked Cali up today!! I was so excited...and a little nervous. The vet had told me ahead of time that Cali did great with the surgery but was having a tough time with the post surgery. She was so unhappy...I mean she just looked pitiful. Cali's really good about cleaning herself and today her surgery was not going to stop her. As soon as the technicians brought her out to me she started cleaning...really cleaning...to the point that she was biting at her feet! Crazy kitty! We had to put a cone on her (poor thing). I could only stay with her for about an hour after I picked her up since I needed to get back to my lab and then teach an evening help session. I set up the futon in the downstairs office with our sheets from our bed and placed her litter box, food, and water in the office as well. The vet had suggested that I keep her in a room at least the first week so she won't get blood everywhere and she won't be tempted to climb and jump in her usual spots.

When I came back home after teaching, Cali was on the futon :) I sat down next to her and she crawled up on top of me and gave me so much lovin!! She wouldn't let me get up actually, LOL! I was glad to see her so affectionate (when I first brought her home she would growl every time I touched her head!).

Awwwww! Poor little thing. You're such a good "Mommy" to her!! I'm glad she's feeling affectionate again! :)
