Intro to the story...

Okay...this is my first blog and I'm not too sure where to begin...so I guess I'll start with the obvious...

My name is Laila Smith and I am 25 years old. I am working at Florida State University as a Teaching Assistant while finishing my master's degree in molecular biology and genetics. I live in a beautiful town home about 15 minutes from the campus and I have a sweet kitty named Cali. Actually, she's my niece's cat and Cali is just "vacationing" with me while Allen is away. Allen is my amazing husband that I will no doubt reference in every blog. I love him with everything I am and while I feel blessed to have him in my life I am also grateful for everything that I have come to know since meeting him (more on that later). Unfortunately from now until Aug '09, we will only be able to communicate via phone, letters, or e-mail. Earlier this year, Allen was activated from his reserve position in the United States Army to serve with the 301st MI BN in Baghdad, Iraq.

Of all things, our last conversation together was about the weather. While he was experiencing sand storms (which he described as dust clouds...as if someone went around banging erasers everywhere), I was livin' it up Florida style. I love this weather! Yesterday when I left for school it was 56! Can you believe it? Of course later that day it warmed up to 82 degrees, lol. That's Florida for ya. Still, even though the day went from 56 to 82 it was breezy. The perfect day...the kind of day that makes you want to spend every second enjoying it. It reminded me of fall afternoons in GA when Allen and I would walk around the green. The green is a huge oval of grass in the middle of the Kennesaw State University campus. It is encircled by concrete and brick and both dogwoods and pear trees. Beautiful! Allen and I used to walk laps around the green whenever we could get a moment together in between classes or work. We would hold hands or more often I would just hold one of his fingers. We'd talk about anything and everything. We wouldn't just come out to the green on perfect fall days. We would walk and talk just about every day! Freezing temperatures, smoldering heat, high winds, and even a little rain didn't stop us. It was one of the few times that we could count on seeing each other.

Allen could tell you that if he had his way he would have spent every waking second with me...crazy boy. Bless his heart.

Y'all are so sweet it's just sick. In a good way, of course...I mean, you two are sweet & romantic in the way that Chad & I are playful & bug each other. Hehehe--I guess we all have our own roles to play in life. That last pic is so cool :)
